Reiki Attunement Ceremony

Some days back I shared my thoughts on the ideal time between Reiki Attunements and today I am going to share something about the Reiki Attunement ceremony.

The Reiki Attunement Ceremony is the heart of all the Reiki courses. It is during this attunement ceremony that the abilities of the respective Reiki levels is passed on to the student by the Reiki Master.

Before the attunement ceremony begins the Reiki Master will tell you what to expect during the Reiki attunement session. Reiki Masters will prepare themselves for attunement by practicing Reiki and meditation along with other processes to prepare the room for this event.

Usually there is soft music playing in the background while you sit comfortably with closed eyes. The Reiki Master will begin by a small prayer, asking for guidance and blessings from Usui Sensei and other spiritual guides.



Your hands will be in prayer position as ask your Reiki Master for the particular Reiki degree. Sit with your back straight and your hands resting in your lap and your feet flat on the floor. Notice your breathing, thoughts, sensations, feelings, vibrations, etc. Let your mind wander on these things freely. No need to focus or concentrate on anything. Just be in the moment!

After some time you will sense your Reiki Master's hand on or above your crown chakra, your head, neck shoulders and back. You Reiki Master will walk around you activating your 7 chakras on your spine and the 2 chakras in your hands.

Different people experience different things in different parts of the body. Some feel heavyness, some feel lightness, some feel a breeze of heat or cold. Some people experience a mild heaviness in the head and other regions, some see a white light, while others see colours and even images of Gods and Goddesses. Some experience ticking or vibration in different parts of the body including the third eye chakra. Some experience movement in one or more of the chakras. Many feel sleepy and most feel relaxed and calm. Some rare people are also there who don't feel anything or who are busy chanting or doing something else while the attunement process so don't notice these experiences.

Once the attunement process is complete your Reiki Master will indicate to you my taping your right shoulder or by ringing a bell. Thank the Reiki energy and your Reiki Master for passing on the abilities associated with the Reiki level that you have been attuned to.

After the Reiki attunement ceremony you can share your experience with your Reiki Master and other students. Each and every person has a different experience. Do not compare your experience with others. If you feel warm and the other student felt cold, it does not mean you have not been attuned.

Some people who do not meditate regularly may be able to be aware of and acknowledge all that they experienced during their attunement but that does not stop them from getting the full benefits.

Some people may not be able to articulate their experience effectively because it is an inner exprience. Many people are not able to identify all the subtle changes because they are not so sensitive to inner processes due to lack of regular meditative practices.

There are always some students who are  busy expecting some unusual sensation and miss out on their actual experience. Irrespective of the experience, the ability is activated in all the students who go through the attunement process and it is for a life time. 

For some people it may be beneficial to get a reattunement after a year, especially if there is a long break in your Reiki practice. Those who practice Reiki regularly do not need reattunements because they can easily feel Reiki flow and they get results when they do their touch and distance Reiki sessions.

Importance of Reiki Attunement

Reiki Attunement, as the word signifies, is your introduction with Reiki, the Universal Energy. You may say it as an initiation into learning the Reiki healing process. You can also say, it as your admission into the spiritual world of Reiki. When you will receive the Reiki Attunment, Reiki will start flowing through your body and calm your mind and enliven your spirit.

It is during Reiki attunement that the flood gates of Reiki energy are opened. This is an initiation into Reiki. It is done primarily to open up your crown, heart and palm chakras to allow the Universal energy of Reiki to flow through you. The Reiki Attunement helps you to rediscover and expand your inborn healing abilities.



Reiki attunement is significant because during the attunement process your connection with Reiki will be established or increased and you will be more in tune with the universal energy of Reiki. 

Attunement is a process to boost your sensitivity to enable you to feel the universal healing energy more deeply and easily. This attunement process will make you much more efficient in using this energy in a meaningful way to reach the goals of your life.

Eligibility for Reiki Attunement

For the Reiki Attunement you need not to have any special knowledge on Reiki. Any body who is in their teens or beyond is eligible for it. 

Reiki Attunemnets are given by the Reiki instructor or the Reiki Master. There are 3 formal levels of Reiki Attunements for beginners. These beginner Reiki levels are very easy to learn under the guidance of experienced teachers. You will feel relaxed while learning Reiki in the Reiki classes.


Levels of Reiki Attunements

• Reiki Level 1 Attunement: In this level you will be permanently get connected with the Reiki source, the healing energy of the Universal. After the initiation you will be able to perform healing on yourself or on others. You can flow the Universal energy through yourself by simply placing your hands and opening your heart to recieve Reiki. This first level of Reiki Attunment is the foundation for other two beginner levels of Reiki. You can start the next level when you will complete your 21 days of practice on this level. This first level deals with the physical healing of self and others.
• Reiki Level 2 Attunement: This level deals with the emotional and mental healing. In this level you will get the chance to be deeply connected with the Universal energy and heal at mental and emotional level. Here you will learn to direct the Reiki energy to travel across any distance and time to heal the emotional and mental issues of any living being, anywhere on this planet. In this level you can practise to send the Reiki energy for healing your family, friends and even animals from a distance. You will learn how to use specific Reiki symbols for specific purposes.
• Reiki Level 3 Attunement: Before entering to this level you must complete and level 2 of Reiki. The full potential of Reiki energy is unlocked while entering to this level. In this level you will be able to perform Reiki healing on spiritual level to anyone who needs it. This level 3 is also known as level 3A or the master level in some countries. This completes your basic course in Reiki. After this those who have mastered healing and those who want to teach Reiki to others with the intention to helping others can apply for Reiki Master Teacher level or Reiki level 3B.

Here are some tips for purifying your body, before & after your Reiki Attunement:

• Once you have scheduled your Reiki class have as much raw foods as possible. 
• Till the date of the class reduce or stop consuming dead foods like meat, fish, eggs, etc. and food from the cold storage.
• Avoid alcohol at lease 1 day prior to your class. 
• If you smoke, then try to reduce it as much as you can.
• You may want to try and see how it feels like to live a day just on juice, do that!
• Try warm water fasting till 12 noon for 1 to 3 days before your Reiki Attunement.
• If you are meditating every day then continue and do it on the day of your Reiki Attunement.
• Try to avoid watching TV, reading news papers and listening the radio just for 1 day before and 1 day after your attunement.
• Determine to spend time for meditation for your 21 day cleansing period after your attunement
• Find time to spend with natural elements like Sun, water stream, sea, trees, garden etc. 
• Try to spend 1 hour alone, doing nothing at all..!
• Avoid spending time doing unnecessary tasks and works. 
• Have plenty of water.
• Have a nice and full night sleep before the day of your class.
• Do juice fasting or have a light breakfast on the day of Reiki Attunement.

Some more tips for your first Reiki Attunement:

• Do your prayer and meditation everyday while preparing for the Reiki Attunement.
• Mentally be prepared for the 21 day cleansing period after the Reiki Attunement.
• Re-evaluate your dosage of medication (if any) after consulting your physician.

Reiki Attunement will introduce you with the Universal energy of Reiki. You will be more efficient and more close to the universal energy of Reiki. Resolve to use this knowledge for the betterment of all living being, including animals, plants, birds, etc. I wish you a beautiful spiritual experience during the Reiki attunement. Each person has a different experience and you should never compare your experience with other peoples experience.

Reiki is pronounced as 'ray-hey'. Reiki is a healing practice that is at least as old as the teachings of Lord Buddha. Various forms of Reiki have been discovered. Buddhist monks in different parts of the world have been using this healing process to speed up spiritual progress of students. There are variations, but essentially the practice is the same.

Buddhist Monk Dr Mikao Usui rediscovered Reiki in Japan and offered his teachings in the Usui system of natural healing. The Usui system is very simple and at the same time it is very powerful.

Reiki energy can be invited and channelled by anyone who has been attuned and trained in the process. This is a primary teaching of the first degree of Reiki. The ability to activate and use the Reiki energy is acquired during attunement done by the Reiki Master. The student needs to sit in a receptive posture while the Reiki Master opens the channels through which the Reiki energy flows into and through the body.

Once the channels are opened, the student can request the Reiki energy to flow through him/her to heal, balance, energise any person, living being, objects, thoughts, intentions, goals, events, situation, environment or planet.

Reiki energy comes from the vast and limitless Universe and is inexhaustible. There is unlimited supply available. While channelling Reiki energy the practitioner experiences being full of energy. Reiki energy flows through the healer and accomplishes any result that is good for all concerned. These powers come with the discipline of daily 1 hour of Reiki practice.

Reiki solves the problems and does corrections at the cause level. Reiki being a spiritual energy, is very intuitive and intelligent. Reiki reaches where it is needed and in the quantity that it is needed, automatically.

In this Universe there are many different kinds of healing energies. Reiki is a special kind of pure spiritual energy that only does the greatest good for the greatest number of people at the highest possible level.
